Barry Ginsberg, M.D., Ph.D. Joins SFC Fluidics® as Consulting Medical Director
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark.– Jan. 1, 2013 – SFC Fluidics has announced the appointment of Barry H. Ginsberg, MD, PhD, as its Consulting Medical Director. Dr. Ginsberg will advance the commercialization of SFC Fluidics’ medical product portfolio in the areas of drug delivery and diagnostics.
Barry Ginsberg is the CEO of Diabetes Technology Consultants. He has served on the board of directors of the American Diabetes Association from 1977 to 1990 (Iowa and National Affiliates) and as president of the board of directors of the ADA (Iowa Affiliate) from 1985 to 1987. Dr. Ginsberg is an internationally-recognized expert in diabetes, blood glucose monitoring and implantable sensors.
Until 2007, he was vice president for WorldWide Medical Affairs for the Diabetes Division of BD Medical Systems, or BD, which is among the world’s leading suppliers of medical devices and a leading innovator in injection- and infusion-based drug delivery, where he led the medical aspects of the diabetes program for 17 years. He is the recipient of a Lifetime Achievement Award from BD.
He is on the board of directors of Biodel Inc., a company working to produce an ultra-rapid insulin, and is a consulting medical director for Agamatrix, which is engaged in the field of diabetes care and for Facet Technologies Inc., a lancet and lancing device supplier to the diabetes market, and is a senior consultant to the Artificial Pancreas Project of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation International.
Dr. Ginsberg was on the senior advisory group of the China Diabetes Education Program, a program of Project Hope and the Chinese Ministry of Health to improve diabetes education in China. Dr. Ginsberg was a professor of internal medicine and biochemistry at the University of Iowa. He was the Principle Investigator of the Diabetes Control and Complications Trial (DCCT) and for part of the time led the ancillary research committee of the DCCT. The DCCT was a landmark medical study conducted by the United States National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK) which established the management principles of diabetes mellitus. He has published over 100 articles in peer-reviewed journals and has received many research grants.
Dr. Ginsberg also has expertise in computers and on the data reduction, analysis and usage of glucose monitoring data. He has an undergraduate degree with highest honors in chemistry from Harpur College, SUNY Binghamton and an MD and PhD in Molecular Biology from Albert Einstein College of Medicine. His medical training in internal medicine was obtained at Beth Israel Hospital (Boston), a Harvard primary teaching hospital, and his training in Endocrinology and Diabetes was conducted at the Diabetes Branch of the NIH.
